Carrefour China is involved in an anti-corruption campaign in China with eight managers from its Carrefour Beijing CCU outlet and seven staff from the fresh and raw food division of other Carrefour outlets in Beijing detained by the police over corruption charges.

According to a news report on Sina.com, the staff from the fresh and raw food division of several other Carrefour stores in northeast China have been removed from their positions and some of the staff from the Meilin outlet in Shenzhen have also been punished.

Carrefour China has recently been proactive in publishing information about the corruption cases occurring within each of its outlets in China. The company said that from June 25 to August 1, they investigated their Beijing CCU and seven outlets, and a total of 22 people, including 12 suppliers, were summoned by the police and eight managers had been detained. These eight people were accused of receiving bribes from the suppliers.

Carrefour has divided its business in China into four big regions of East China, South China, North China and Middle China. The outlets in each of the regions can adopt a flexible operation pattern according to their actual situations on the ground. A representative from Shanghai Carrefour said so far they had not identified any corruption in Shanghai stores.
