China Will Initiate First Survey On Pollution Sources

China will initiate its first general investigation on pollution source in February 2008.

Wang Yuqing, director of The First Pollution Source Investigation Leading Team Work Office of the State Council, says that the State Council has decided to carry out the nationwide survey to strengthen the supervision and management of the environment, improve the level of decision-making in a scientific manner, and realize the goal of shrinking pollution emissions during the 11th Five-Year Period.

Wang says that the preparation work for the survey will be completed before the end of this year and the survey will be formally started next year for the purpose of checking out the country's industrial pollution sources, agricultural pollution sources, the number of pollution processing facilities and their distribution as well as the categories of major pollutants and the general management level.

Wang says that in order to facilitate the survey for next year, since mid-July a trial survey in 14 districts across the country including Yubei District in Chongqing and have provided good testing grounds.
