Lu Weidong, deputy director of the Propaganda Bureau of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, has disclosed at People.com.cn's Corporate Social Responsibility Summit Forum that SASAC is working on a structure on government-owned enterprises' implementation of corporate social responsibilities and the new guidance opinion is expected to be released in the second half of 2008.

Lu says that government-owned enterprises have achieved harmonious and sustainable development in recent years with an annual increase of RMB1.3 trillion in total assets. At the same time, their awareness of CSR has been increasing. China's government-owned enterprises have published eleven CSR or sustainable development reports.

Lu also points out that the great achievement made by government-owned enterprises has much to do with the media, particularly the good consensus atmosphere created by the central media like People's Daily and people.com.cn. According to Lu, it will be one of the seven key tasks of SASAC in 2008 to guide government-owned enterprises to fulfill their CSR in 2008.
