Tencent Holding's charity foundation has signed a letter of intent with the Land Surveying Division of State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping and promised to donate RMB2 million in the initial phase to support South Pole scientific study projects.

According to the agreement, Tencent will not only offer fund support to South Pole surveying and mapping, scientific study station construction, software transformation and hardware support, but also make full use of its own online advantage to call on the entire Chinese society to care about global warming and provide real-time information and knowledge on South Pole scientific study as well as to advocate environmental protection concepts.

Li Weisen, deputy director of SBSM, says that there will be big potential for Tecent to cooperate with SBSM in the future, and the Chinese instant messaging company will play a significant role in surveying and mapping with its advanced instant communications and Internet technology.
