Chinese security software provider Qihoo 360 and home appliances maker TCL announced that the two companies will help Chinese consumers fight the horrible pollution in many cities.

The companies will cooperate in the launch of a smart Internet air purifier product named T3 Air Guard. This new product will reportedly be released on April 9, 2014.

According to Shen Haiyin, vice president of Qihoo 360, T3 Air Guard will have an embedded sensitive air quality sensor. Compared with traditional air purifiers, the most distinctive feature of T3 Air Guard is Internet access via a Wi-Fi module, which works via a combination of the standalone air purifier, a mobile app, and Qihoo 360's cloud platform.

Shen said with this feature, users can have remote control of their T3 Air Guard via a mobile app. Meanwhile, the usage information and air monitoring data of the air purifier can be uploaded to Qihoo 360's cloud platform. The cloud platform will also provide indoor and outdoor air quality information for user reference. The company though did not explain if they will use the air pollution index provided by local Chinese governments, or apparently more reliable statistics from the U.S. Embassy and its consulates in China's largest cities.

The T3 Air Guard has a new integrated filter. By collecting the running data of the air purifier, it will provide customized advice to users for filter change service. Shen added that with T3 Air Guard, users will be able to check indoor air quality wherever they are. If dust, haze, or particulate matter is detected, they can give a command to the product via the app to purify the air.
