News from the Third Perambulation and Design Institute of the Ministry of Railway, the designer of Beijing South Railway Station, is that the construction of BSRS will feature environmentally friendly and energy saving materials and will be the first to adopt solar power among Chinese railway stations.

As the starting point of the inter-city railway between Beijing and Tianjin which is scheduled to be launched in August next year, BSRS is currently under a hurried construction. A representative from TPDI introduced to local media that by adopting an oblong roof, the railway station is suitable for using solar power.

Most of the raw materials for the solar power system will be reportedly imported from abroad and this will involve about RMB50-60 million in total. However, the railway station will mainly rely on the capital's traditional power supply and only adopt the solar power system in the daytime to complement its power use.
