China's first Australian Garden, located in Guangzhou's South China Botanical Garden, was officially opened to the public by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and BHP Billiton. The garden showcases more than 150 native Australian plant species unique to Australia's natural ecosystem. More than 140 guests attended the opening ceremony including 120 school students, academia and scientists from both the Chinese and Australian Academy of Sciences, South China Botanic Garden, Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh, Consulate General of Australia in Guangzhou and BHP Billiton China.
