Beijing's World Celebrity Golf Event Raises Charity Funds

This past Sunday, former president of the United States, Bill Clinton, took part in the World Celebrity Golf 2005 charity tournament in Beijing. He played in a group that included former Beijing Mayor Zhang Baifa, Jorgen Persson former number one table tennis champion from Sweden and Brian Laudrup, retired Danish football star.

Money raised from the weekend will go to two charities. Care for Children, a China-based charity which finds local Chinese homes for disadvantaged Chinese children in China will receive part of the proceeds. The Audiology Development Foundation of China which provides treatment for hearing impaired children in China will receive the second part of the funds.

The chief fundraising event was a live auction following the meal, where guests bid for a variety of items donated by the celebrities. These included signed footballs from Ronald De Boer and Frank Laudrup and dress coupons donated by Fa Fa.

Participating celebrities included, Bill Clinton, Zhang Baifa, Cai Zhenhua, Jorgen Persson, Ronald de Boer, Tian Zhuangzhuang, Brian Laudrup, Jason Priestly, He Ping, Steve Backley, Gu Changwei, John Regis, Wang Zhiwen, Ingermar Stenmark, Yu Rongguang, Ian Ziering, Dong Lejun and Li Xiaoshuang.
