The Chongqing Commission of Commerce has destroyed all the bootleg imitation alcohol which has been captured since July last year.

The alcohol are said to be worth up to RMB2 million. According to a representative from CCC, the alcohol destroyed this time was mainly high-end distilled spirits, ranging from Moutai to Luzhou Laodiao. Though the cost for making such alcohol was just a few yuan, they were sold at high prices. For example, a bottle of 15-year-brew fake Moutai was even sold for over RMB3000.

Of the alcohol destroyed, more than 800 bottles were seized from a wholesale market which reportedly had already been fined RMB500,000, while the fake imported wines were said to be mainly from bars and KTVs.

It is reported by local media that brewers of such fake wines have signed long-term contract with hotels and restaurants to purchase the empty wine bottles from them for RMB10,000 per year.
