The Xiangtan Iron and Steel Group has released its first corporate social responsibility report marking its 50th anniversary.
The report elaborated what Xiangtan Steel has done in economic responsibility, social responsibility and environmental responsibility in the past 50 years, and unveiled important information about these responsibilities in 2000-2007. Xiangtan Steel is the second steel company to release a CSR report in China following Wuhan Iron and Steel Group.
The scale of Xiangtan Steel's heavy plate and steel rod production is among the largest in China, with exports of steel wire ranking tops in China for many years. Xiangtan steel has invested CNY300 million to build over 20 environmental facilities since the Eleventh Five-year Plan began.
In response to the great losses due to the blizzard disaster in early 2008, Xiangtan Steel has donated CNY5 million for relief work. Following the May 12 earthquake in Sichuan, the company donated more than CNY7 million and 1,000 tents.
The report also points out its next goal is to become a world-class heavy plate and steel rod manufacturer.
