A waste cathode ray tube televisions recycling line will be opened by Sichuan Changhong in 2008, and Changhong hopes it will be the largest waste home appliances recycling base in west China — via technology development and industrial investment.

The project has received financial support of CNY6 million from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Sichuan Province. All key equipment for the CRST recycling line was independently developed by Sichuan Changhong, Tsinghua University, and the China Household Electric Appliance Research Institute.

Changhong set up a project team in 2006 for the green recycling of waste home appliances. In early 2008, Changhong Engineering Technology Center was founded, focusing on the research and application of waste home appliances recycling technology and green design.

Currently e-waste is an important source of resource waste and environmental protection. China's waste electrical and electronic products recycling regulation is expected to come out this year. It is expected that this will say that manufacturers are responsible for the recycling of waste home appliances.
