Yip's Chemical, one of China's biggest chemical products manufacturers has donated a mobile eye surgery vehicle called Restoring Eyesight No.19 to the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
The vehicle is equipped with ophthalmic surgical instruments and is valued at over HKD2.2 million.
The Restoring Eyesight project is spearheaded by the All-China Women's Federation, sponsored by China Women's Development Foundation and Asian Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness, and assisted by The Hong Kong Society for the Blind. The project aims to help the poor cataract patients in remote areas by removing the cataract and implanting an intraocular lens. The project will also help train eye doctors in town and country hospitals to conduct eye surgeries independently.
Statistics show that Ningxia now has a total population of about 6.1 million, 0.48% of which are blind. Of these, 31.8% of the blindness is caused by cataracts with an increase of more than 3,000 each year. The mobile vehicle is expected to heal 1,500 to 2,000 cataract patients each year in Ningxia.
Yip's Chemical Holdings, a Hong Kong listed company, focuses on the production and sale of petrochemical products. Its three core businesses are solvents, coatings, and lubricants.
