World Bank To Offer USD510 Million Loan To Sichuan

Robert B. Zoellick, president of the World Bank, said during his recent visit to Sichuan that WB will provide a USD510 million loan to Sichuan earthquake areas and the loan is slated to be approved by the bank's board of directors in January next year.

During his visit, Zoellick expressed his sympathy to people affected by the earthquake. He said that WB had been doing its best to help people affected by the disaster with its global expertise and special resource. He added that the special loan of USD510 million for Sichuan earthquake areas had been evaluated and is waiting for approval from the bank's board of directors.

It is said that of the USD510 million bank loan, USD450 million will be used for reconstruction of infrastructure such as roads, bridges and river dams in five cities: Mianyang, Guangyuan, Nanchong, Bazhong, and Ya'an, and USD60 million will be allocated for the rebuilding of hospitals and clinics in seven cities of Chengdu, Mianyang, Nanchong, Ya'an, Deyang, Guangyuan, and Bazhong.
