Canada-based Nortel has announced it will cut 3,200 jobs globally within the next few months. Nortel China says that this will affect the company's employees in China, though it has not disclosed the exact number of employees that will be affected.

Previously, Nortel announced it was laying-off 1,800 employees. With the new cuts, the company's retrenchment will affect 5,000 employees worldwide.

In addition, Nortel also plans to close most of its R&D centers around the world and only keep those in Canada and China.

At present, Nortel has more than 4,000 employees in China. It is not known how many of them have been affected by the company's last staff cut.
