BMW Recalls Substandard 7 Series Sedans

June 25, 2009

BMW China has announced that, from June 25 2009, it is recalling 1,694 sedans for quality defects.

These sedans, which are reported to be BMW740Li and BMW750Li models, were made between July 1, 2008 and May 6, 2009 and delivered to consumers between January and May 13, 2009.

It is learned that due to a defect in the material of the sedans' components and particle contamination in the fuel supply, the engine may not work properly and this may lead to an engine failure or may, in extreme cases, cause a flame-out when the car is in motion.

BMW China has stated that it would replace the fuel tank for consumers free of charge to eliminate this latent problem. It says it will begin the recall starting from June 25, 2009, and consumers whose cars have the problem before this date can go directly to a BMW dealer for a free maintenance service.
