Sichuan province has enacted a ruling on the penalties to be imposed on environmental violations, and the ruling states that construction companies can be fined up to CNY10,000 for disturbing residents at night.

The ruling consists of eight major categories including water pollution, air pollution, solid waste pollution, and noise pollution. It states that penalties will be imposed based on four different levels of environmental violations: slight violations, mild violations, serious violations, and extremely serious violations.

To prevent residents from being disturbed by construction noise at night, the ruling states that construction companies that operate in noise-sensitive regions in downtown areas without approval will be fined up to CNY10,000.
