CCTV Sues Online Video Service Providers

China International Television Corporation, an affiliate of CCTV, has filed lawsuits against six online video service providers, including ku6.com, 6.cn, and aeeboo.com, accusing them of broadcasting its content and asking them to pay CNY16.2 million in compensation.

CCTV says its distribution of TV operas has reduced a lot since last year due to the broadcasting of these TV operas by these online video service providers.

So far, Beijing's Haidian District Court has made a ruling that these online video service providers had violated the copyright of CCTV and has requested them to stop the infringement and compensate CCTV.

However, a representative from ku6.com was quoted by local media as saying that most of the online video programs on their website were uploaded by users on the Internet and not by the website itself.
