The China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corporation has formally published its 2009 corporate social responsibility report in Beijing.

Frank G. Ning, the chairman of COFCO, introduced COFCO's CSR aims and practices at the release ceremony. Ning said that, guided by scientific development concepts, COFCO made its new strategic goal in 2009 to realize a consumer-oriented control of production process. Ning stated that there is no limit to social responsibility. He added that COFCO not only needs to create material wealth, but also to create spiritual wealth for society, providing not only nutritious cereals and oils, but also improved consumption structures and lifestyles.

COFCO's 2009 CSR report which consists of ten parts — including safeguarding national food security, ensuring food safety, serving the agriculture sector, protecting the environment, developing a low-carbon economy, and actively participating in social public welfare causes — details the company's social responsibility concept and CSR performance in the year.

COFCO says that from now on it will publish a CSR report every year.

COFCO is one of China's state-owned foodstuffs import and export holding companies. In 2009, the company's total processing capacity reached 16 million tons with a central grain repository capacity of 1.75 million tons.
