Abbott Laboratories' China unit has said that the company is willing to exchange some recalled products purchased by Chinese consumers through unofficial distribution channelsother infant formula products being sold in China.

Abbot earlier said that the Chinese market was unaffected by its recent recall of certain Similac-brand, powder infant formulas, as the products distributed in China were produced in New Zealand, Europe, and Singapore, while those being recalled were produced in the USA.

However quite a few Chinese consumers acquired the recalled products through their family members or friends in the USA, and some of them purchase these products from the Chinese online shopping website Taobao.com.

Abbot China says that Chinese consumers should exchange their products by October 31, 2010.
