According to Xu Mei, a spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Education, the fund will be mainly used in three areas: the reconstruction of school buildings in the rural areas of middle and west China; enhancing the basic facilities of the secondary and vocational education departments in these regions, including supplying additional teaching instruments and equipment to them; and the construction of schools for special education in the regions.

Xu said most of the fund will be used in rural areas of the middle and west part of China as well as areas that were hit by the 5.12 earthquake.
