From 2009 to 2012, the Chinese Ministry of Education will offer annual full scholarships to ten undergraduates from the State University of New York for one-year advanced study in China.

According to a memorandum of understanding signed at the office of David Paterson, governor of New York State, the China Scholarship Council will be responsible for enrolling students from SUNY as the executor of the Chinese side. And in the next three years, the Ministry of Education will choose schools from more than 400 of its affiliated universities and colleges to host students from SUNY.

The Ministry of Education has a long history of cooperation with SUNY. In August this year, SUNY offered scholarships to 150 Chinese undergraduate students from Sichuan province in western China, which was hit by a major earthquake in May. These students have gone to study full time at SUNY's 22 campuses and it is expected that they will return to China in May 2009 after completing their studies.
