China's General Administration of Industry and Commerce has commenced an investigation on NUK Baby Powder sold on the Chinese market following a report in South Korean media which said that a number of baby powder products, including NUK Baby Powder made by Babyra, contain actinolite — a carcinogen.
On investigation, AQSIQ found that five batches, totaling 11.6 tons of unfinished baby powder imported from South Korea by Suzhou Silk Import and Export Company on behalf of Suzhou Debao Children and Infant Products Company were sold on the Chinese market with the brand of NUK following processing by Suzhou Xinxing Healthcare Product Factory.
A representative named Zhang from SDCIPC has confirmed to the media that the problem with NUK Baby Powder mainly lies in the raw material cycle and the company is now recalling this substandard product.
According to China's Ministry of Health, actinolite, which is commonly found in talc, is banned from cosmetics use.
