At a regular meeting presided over by Chinese premier Wen Jiabao, it was decided that climate change would be included into China's national economic and social development plan.
At the meeting it was stressed that the correct response to climate change is critical to China's economic and social development and the general public's interest as well as the development of the human race. Climate change is not only an environmental problem, but also a development issue. As a responsible developing country, China is fully aware of the importance and urgency of climate change and proposes to cope with climate change through effective international cooperation.
At the meeting it was said that China would continue to abide by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol, maintain sustainable development, and ensure the implementation of relevant climate change clauses.
At the meeting it was decided that climate change work be done based on the promotion of an ecological society and scientific development, and taking into consideration of economic development and ecological construction as well as the domestic and international situation. At the meeting it was agreed that a national measure on climate change should be implemented and extensive international cooperation be reached to enhance the achievement made in climate change.
As a next step to address the issue, China will include climate change into its national economic and social development plan, strengthen the implementation of national climate change measures, the development green economy, enhance the capacity to deal with climate change, improve laws and regulations related to climate change and actively carry on international cooperation and exchange in the related fields.
