According to Hong Kong's Ming Bao Daily, the Hong Kong China Bodybuilding Association is found to be involved in corrupt practices following the cancellation of the bodybuilding event during the East Asian Games, which were expected to yield a gold medal winner for Hong Kong.
On August 19, Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption accused Chen Shaowen, chairman of HKCBBA, of conspiring with an athlete, who was banned in 2005 from taking part in the match due to drug abuse, to bribe the secretary general of the Asia Bodybuilding Association in exchange for shortening the ban on the athlete so the athlete could join the Doha Asian Games in 2006. In addition, Chen was accused by the ICAC of fraudulently obtaining HKD250,000 as financial aid.
Chen revealed to the media in June this year that three athletes were punished in 2005: Chen Ruitao, Lin Wenshang, and Guang Guangshen. Subsequently in the Doha Asia Games Chen Ruitao won a golden medal and Lin Wenshang won a bronze medal.
ICAC refused to disclose the names and details of the athletes involved in the case, though Guang was rumored to be the very sportsman with whom Chen colluded in the corruption.
