Sang Guowei, the director-general of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, has disclosed to local media that China will set up a national emergency medicine supply system to guarantee the supply of medicines in an emergency.

Sang said that the establishment of the national emergency medicine supply system is an important step to maintain national strategy safety, social stability and the interests of the general public; and it is also an important part of the construction of a national emergency guarantee system with Chinese characteristics and national emergency health insurance system.

Sang stressed that the purpose of setting up the system is to quickly and efficiently deliver medicines to those in need and minimize the loss and death caused by accidents as well as ensuring social stability and sustainable economic development.

Since February this year, CPA has been conducting research in regions that are vulnerable to natural disaster such as Guangdong, Sichuan, and Fujian. It has also surveyed and interviewed staff of more than 30 hospitals who have joined emergency services.
