Siemens has signed a strategic partnership framework agreement with the Xianning government on the establishment of a sustainable eco-city for resource conservation.

As Siemens' first eco-city project in China, this partnership will build a prototype which could serve as a reference for other cities across China. Under the agreement, Siemens, and Xianning will first launch four projects including two-oriented society demonstration zones, a "green" power plant, energy efficient buildings, and a basic healthcare demonstration system.

According to Richard Hausmann, the CEO of Siemens Northeast Asia and president and CEO of Siemens China, Siemens Corporate Technology started research on eco-cities in 2008. The agreement is the beginning of a long-term cooperation between the two, opines Hausmann. He believes that with the support from Xianning Government and vigorous technological innovation of Siemens, Xianning will become an economically prosperous, socially harmonious and environmentally friendly eco-city in the near future.
