Seven NGOs from China have jointly published a document in Beijing setting out their views and stance on climate change as well as their expectations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held Copenhagen.
The document, "Chinese Civil Society on Climate Change (2009)", has been published by seven NGOs — Friends of Nature, Global Village of Beijing, Green Earth Volunteers, Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs, Greenpeace, Oxfam, and Action Aid — that began to solicit the Chinese civilian society's stance on climate change from June this year, holding a series of discussions before the formal release of the document.
It is learned that "Chinese Civil Society on Climate Change (2009)" consists of two parts. The first part is on international negotiations which says that developed countries and developing countries should, amongst other aims, jointly explore the path of low-carbon and sustainable development; adjust their energy structure; and improve energy efficiency. The second part is on domestic policy recommendations: the NGOs express their hope that the Chinese government can play a leading role on climate issues and that it will actively seek a low-carbon development model.
The Chinese Civilian Society on Climate Change Team was established in 2007. Its mission is to discuss and respond to climate issues and reach a consensus on the future actions regarding climate change.
