Nanchang, the capital of China's Jiangxi province, plans to promote the concept of green food service among the city's food and beverage service providers and will encourage consumers to buy in an environmentally friendly manner.

The city will appraise food and service providers according to their performance in the green initiative.

"Green Food" refers to the provision of a safe and healthy food service with energy saving, environmental protection, and safety as the key ideas implemented through scientific and effective management. Hotels and restaurants that have won the "green" title are often marked with a gingko leaf. The higher green grade of a hotel or restaurant, the more gingko leaves it will get. The highest grade of green hotels and restaurants is those marked with five gingko leaves.
