Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide has announced that the St. Regis Lhasa Resort will open in November 2010 as a green hotel.

Great effort has been put into reducing its carbon footprint and saving energy. By utilizing solar energy and underground water, the St. Regis Lhasa is estimated to reduce diesel energy consumption every year by 93,000 kilograms with corresponding savings in carbon emissions. The hotel will also operate a fleet of high-efficiency hybrid and turbo-diesel vehicles, which are expected to help reduce carbon emissions by 30%.

Located on the "Roof of the World", 3,680 meters above sea level, the resort is located on Jiangsu Road and situated in the famous ancient Barkhor area. The St. Regis Lhasa Resort is just minutes away from the holy Potala Palace and 75 kilometers from Gongga Airport. It features 150 rooms and villas and 12 suites including the Presidential Suite, as well as restaurants, bars, the Iridium Spa, ballroom and meeting space. All the hotel guest rooms are accented by local artifacts and distinctive décor reflecting Tibetan culture and heritage.

The hotel will be the Starwood group's first St. Regis resort in China.
