A report released by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Industry and Commerce showed that one type of Nokia battery made by Sanyo was substandard.

The third quarter electronic product quality report released by GPDIC showed that 144 out of 249 batches of electronic products made by 113 companies were substandard. The spot-check report said that mobile phone batteries made in Zhuhai, Dongguan, and Huizhou all met the standards, while those made in Guangzhou had a pass rate of just 38.5%.

The report revealed that Nokia BL-5B (3.7V 820mAH) batteries with the manufacturing date or batch series number of "2007" were substandard. The problems with the battery were in 0.2C5A discharge performance, 1C5A discharge performance, and over-charge protection performance. The batteries are reported to be made by Sanyo Beijing.

Up till now, it is unknown whether the problematic batteries was authentic ones or fake ones as there has been no feedback from the manufacturers concerned.
