A spot check conducted by Beijing Municipal Department for Industry and Commerce shows that one batch of the well-known Longfeng Rice Dumpling is substandard because its peroxide content does not comply with the national standard.

The peroxide number reflects the freshness of food materials, and eating food with a high peroxide content will cause stomachache or diarrhea.

BMDIC checked 89 kinds of rice dumplings samples from 21 manufacturers sold in 13 shopping malls across the city. The result shows that except for Longfeng Rice Dumpling, the rest of 88 samples were all up to standard.

The unqualified product is said to be Longfeng Ningbo Rice Dumpling (made of black glutinous rice with black sesame paste) produced by Tianjin Guofu Longfeng Food Company with the series number of 20081231D05T.
