According to Yangguang News, from July 25, 2009, a new kind of bitumen will be used for parts of Chang'an Avenue in Beijing to help reduce the noise caused by vehicles.

It is learned that a mixture of rubber and asphalt, which is widely recognized as a kind of environmentally-friendly material, will be applied. The new material can help reduce the noise of vehicles by two decibels, which is equivalent to decreasing the noise pollution by a car running at 80 kilometers per hour by one-third.

Previously, Chinese media reported that Beijing will renovate Chang'an Avenue, one of the major traffic trunks in the Chinese capital, to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
