A foundation called the China Yellow River Conservation Foundation has been set up in Zhengzhou in central Henan province for the protection of the Yellow River.

Launched by the Yellow River Conservancy Commission, CYRCF is the first public fundraising foundation of China's water conservation industry and the foundation accepts donations from any organization, institution, or individual who is concerned with the health of the Yellow River.

As the cradle of the Chinese nation, the Yellow River, which is the second longest river in China, has been honored as the mother river of the country. Meanwhile it is also one of the world's rivers that suffers most from pollution and land erosion. According to a report released by YRCC in 2008, about one-third of the water sections of the Yellow River were polluted, mainly by industrial pollution. In September 2009, YRCC gained approval from China's State Council to establish the foundation.
