The Chinese state-owned mining and energy company, Shenhua Group, is developing a carbon dioxide capture and storage project that is reported to be the first of its kind in China, in Erdos, Inner Mongolia.

According to Wang Heming, the deputy general manager of Erdos Branch of China Shenhua Coal Liquefaction Corporation, the CCS project features an annual capacity of 100,000 tons with an estimated amount of investment of CNY210 million. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation by December 31, 2010. Wang said that based on the outcome of this project, they will gradually develop two other CCS projects, with storage capacities of one million and three million tons of carbon dioxide respectively.

Gu Dazhao, the general manager of Shenhua Technology Development Company stated that the new project is part of the action that Shenhua has taken in finding ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in response to the state's requests for energy conservation and emission reduction.

The operational cost for the CCS project is not yet published, but it is estimated to be about USD50 per ton.

CO2 capture at CYN210million is a direct waste of PRC Government money as such concepts have been proven unstable! Google yahoo will testify science risks of burying CO2e!(down at -60degrees to +150degrees to expand)
Worse CO2 is a most valued asset and is part of Natures' Carbon Cycle! Scientifically proven and Natures' process C4 photosynthesis pathway sequestering dedicated vegetation can reverse Nei Mongol deserts and convert CO2 to carbon carbon-soiland trace elements to be sustainable agricuture to feed the nation.
For part of the proposed investment the PRC Central Government could put 2,000 Farmers back growing food 1,250,000tonnes CO2 annually every year(12 times Erdos once only). The income via UNFCCC emission trading repays the investment the first year and there after income can reverse the Mongolian desert. Erdos could be heroes!
The question must be asked who is in charge of Central Government spending on un-scientific concepts? I am adviser to CBEX and my strong advice will be this is not in PRC global reputation best interest.
Risk gas rising to unsuspecting citizens soon earthquakes!
Risk unproven concepts or proven natures process reverse Mongolian desert and make money doing it to repeat process
