Workers at Lotte China Food Company in Beijing went on strike on August 16, 2010, to demand better pay.

It is reported that about 300 workers at the food plant, which is owned by South Korea's Lotte Group, took part in the strike and production at the plant had been halted.

The strike is the first to take place in the Chinese capital, following a series of wages strikes in Guangdong province in southern China.

Lotte China could not be reached for immediate comment.
