The doctorate degree programs of four Chinese institutions have been canceled after having been evaluated as substandard.

The four unqualified doctorate programs are at Peking Union Medical College of Tsinghua University; Nanjing University of Science and Technology; China Academy of Building Research; and China Aviation Industry Planning and Design Institute. The specific programs are the Clinic of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine at the Peking Union Medical College of Tsinghua University; Management Science and Engineering at Nanjing University of Science and Technology; Engineering Mechanics at the China Academy of Building Research; and Computing Mathematics at the China Aviation Industry Planning and Design Institute.

In a periodical evaluation of doctorate degree programs conducted in 2005, 22 institutions, including the four above, were found to have some problems and needed to be rectified. Now after two year's rectification, most others are found to be up to the standard and are allowed to resume the granting of doctorate programs for their respective majors.
