In preparation for the Mid-Autumn Festival, the industrial and commercial departments in Beijing have begun special checks on the city's moon cake market.

It is learned that the industrial and commercial departments of Chongwen District, Haidian District, Xicheng District, and Daxing District in Beijing have each begun comprehensive inspections on the moon cake products made and sold in their jurisdiction, focusing on out of date stocks and borax levels. Moon cakes are a popular gift during the holiday period.

It is said that each moon cake must undergo 15 different tests, including peroxide level and preservative content before they can be released on the market, and a report on the test results will be released shortly after which substandard moon cake products will be withdrawn from market.
