Shandong Academy of Science and Oxford University have signed an agreement with Jinan Municipal Government to officially launch a research project on low carbon economy strategic planning in Jinan.

The project will carry out research on how Chinese cities of different levels of economic development develop a low carbon economy, and it has gained support from UK's Strategic Programme Fund — Low Carbon High Growth. This project is undertaken by University of Oxford, Shandong Academy of Science, and Guizhou International Cooperation Center for Environmental Protection.

The project will explore the low-carbon development models of four cities — Jinan and Dongying in Shandong, and Guiyang and Zunyi in Guizhou — to offer references for Chinese cities in developing a low carbon economy.

The project team will co-work with local government, enterprises and communities to work out an urban low carbon development action plan, to identify and design a low carbon economy demonstration program, and to improve the capacity of sustainable development and recycling economy of a city.
